A Michigan Process Server for People Handling Their Own Case
If you filed a case without a lawyer, papers that have to be handed over in person still need someone who is not a party to deliver them. We serve them for you anywhere in Michigan and return a signed, notarized affidavit of service.
MCR 2.103(A) allows any legally competent adult who is not a party to serve. We make the delivery for you, write down the date, time and place of every attempt, and send you the signed proof once the papers are in the right hands.
Cases people bring to us on their own
- Small claims cases
- Divorce, custody and parenting time cases
- General civil cases in district or circuit court
- PPO papers that must reach the respondent
What to have ready when you call
The papers the court gave you
Bring the copies you were given to serve. We deliver the papers as they are. We do not fill in, change or file court papers.
The date on your papers
If your papers include a summons, it expires 91 days after it is issued under MCR 2.102(D). Small claims papers carry a hearing date instead, and MCL 600.8406 has them served at least 7 days before it. Tell us whichever date your papers show.
Where and when the person can be found
A home or work address, the hours the person is usually there, and a description if you can give one.
The signed proof comes back to you
When the papers are delivered, we return a signed, notarized affidavit of service stating how, when and where it happened.
Questions from people without a lawyer
Can I serve the papers myself?
No. As the person who filed, you are a party, and the rule allows service only by an adult who is not one. A friend or relative who is not a party may do it, or we can.
Can you tell me which papers to serve or what to file?
No. We do not give legal advice or help with forms, and we do not file court papers. Questions about your case are for an attorney. We serve the papers you already have and document the delivery.
What if the person avoids the server?
The server keeps trying at different hours and on different days and writes down what was seen at each visit. If the papers still cannot be handed over, you get a dated record of every attempt.
