Process Serving Questions, Answered
What does a Michigan process server do?
A process server hand-delivers court papers to the person named in a case, then documents the delivery. We serve summonses, complaints, subpoenas, eviction notices, personal protection orders, divorce papers and other court documents across Michigan, and every completed serve returns a signed, notarized affidavit of service you can file.
Can you serve papers anywhere in Michigan?
Yes. We serve all 83 Michigan counties from our office in Troy, including Metro Detroit and communities across the Lower and Upper Peninsulas. Send us the recipient’s address and we confirm coverage before the serve begins. Each completed serve is documented in a notarized affidavit of service for your court.
How fast can you serve papers in Metro Detroit?
Same-day and rush service is available across Metro Detroit, and standard serves often begin the day your documents arrive. How fast a serve finishes depends on the address, the recipient’s schedule and traffic. We serve days, evenings and weekends to reach people when they are home. Call (248) 268-0097 to start.
What happens if the person avoids service?
Standard service includes at least three attempts on different days, evenings and weekends. If the person still cannot be reached, skip tracing can locate a current address or workplace. GPS and time-stamped records can document each attempt, which can support a motion for alternate service when the court allows it.
